There is no session sitting somewhere waiting for you. It is created when two people are matched and it stops existing when either one leaves.

A room is one person, many viewers
The app lobby has a Live tab: someone streams from their own room and anyone who drops in can watch. That is live too — it is just pointed at an audience instead of at you.
Watching is not being in it
In a room your camera stays off and the chat you type is visible to everyone else watching. Nobody in there is having a conversation with you specifically.
A clip feed is neither
Scrolling short videos is the third thing that borrows the word, and it is the one that is not live at all — those were filmed earlier, and nobody on the other end knows you are there.
Why this matters
The word is doing real work.
Most people who search for something live want one of two things, and the word does not tell you which. Either you want to watch someone — in which case a room works fine and your camera stays off — or you want a person who can respond to you, by name, in the next second.
That second one is the whole reason this site is built around a single two-person session rather than a feed or a room. Watching can be endless and still leave you talking to nobody. One live conversation cannot.
Common questions
It means the video is happening in real time in both directions: the person you are matched with sees you as you move and speak, and you see them the same way. Nothing in the session is a recording.
